A Bit of Theory
To succeed in submitting your site, you must know how search engines and directories work on the Internet. By the way, do
you know the difference between these two kinds of sites?
- A directory is managed by a staff.

If you submit your site to directories (Lycos, Yahoo, etc.), their teams of surfers will visit your pages and evaluate their
relevancy. If your site is well designed and rich in content, the chances are that it will obtain a good placement on the
directory.
- A search engine is fully automated.

When you submit a site to a search engine (Google, Altavista, etc.), a little program called a crawler scrutinises all your pages and adds them to an existing database. The quality of your site ranking will depend on the words
your site uses.
These two kinds of sites require you to use different submission procedures to get a good placement. In either case, however,
take time to prepare your site prior to rushing into submission fill-in forms.
- Do not submit an incomplete site as it will certainly be rejected by directories.

- Carefully prepare the descriptions you submit as they will enable your site to stand out from others.

- And above all, get your pages ready to be visited by search engines' crawlers. For this purpose, there are a few essential
HTML tags.
