Transferring Files with CuteFTP (PC)

The first thing to do is to locate the files you wish to upload to the server on your hard drive. If you are an organised webmaster, they are properly stored in their own working directory which you can access using the navigating drop-down list located in the left pane. The file transfer is then a simple process:

  1. Select all the appropriate files in the left column.

  2. Click on the Upload button of the toolbar.

  3. If one of the files currently stored in your hosting space bears the same name as one of those to be uploaded, CuteFTP will ask you what to do. It is up to you to replace the existing file (clicking Overwrite) or to leave it.

During the upload, the program's status bar displays progress information. It shows the elapsed time, an estimation of the remaining upload time, and the percentage of the files already sent. The transfer duration can vary according to the speed or quality of the connection and the size of the files.

Once the transfer is done, the right pane displays the status of the hosting space with the new files. All you need to do now is pay your site a visit with your favourite browser and admire the result!

Handling folders. CuteFTP also enables your to create new folders and send files to a specific folder.

  • To create a new folder in your hosting space, right click in the right pane and select the Make new directory option in the pop-up menu. Then type in the folder name you want to assign.

  • To transfer files into a specific folder of your hosting space, double-click on the folder in the right pane. After a few seconds, the folder content will appear. You can then execute the previously described upload procedure.

  • To revert to the main folder of your hosting space, click on the return button located on the righthand side on top of the file list. You will be taken back to the parent folder.
