Search Engine Optimization : Website placement

Positioning with Directories
Let us remind you of an important characteristic concerning directories such as Yahoo!, LookSmart and Open Directory. They
are made and maintained by a staff of
surfers/editors. You suggest a website and they look at it when they can. After reviewing it, they either reject it (then your sole option
is to try to resubmit your website later on), or accept it, reserving the right to change the indications you supplied.
The current trend is that most of the Internet traffic generated by search tools comes from directories rather than from search
engines. So, logically, your efforts to be better listed under certain keywords deemed important for your activity should
be concentrated on directories. Unfortunately, searches are primarily carried out based on descriptive sheets (title, summary
description, category) made by the very same directories.
This makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to obtain good positions in a subject category within Yahoo! or a similar
search engine.
The only possibility for you to improve the traffic generated by a directory is to make searches and to ask for a placement
in a new subject category, which could substantially increase your traffic.
