Search Engine Optimization : Key criteria and blocking factors

Blocking Factors for Directory Submission
On a directory or a search engine, there are a number of factors that could prevent the registration of your website. In such
cases, it will be rejected even before you get the chance of having it rated. So it is better that you are aware of these
blocking elements early enough to take them into account at design time instead of having to rebuild your website once you
have noticed that hardly anyone visits it.
As for directories, here are the blocking factors:
- Flimsy pages without any real content. Pay attention to your page content to avoid your website being rejected.

- Dead links. Avoid 404 errors (internal or external) on your website, otherwise you will immediately be penalised.

- Websites under construction. It is better not to show a feature rather than to indicate that it will soon be available by displaying the "Under construction"
sign.

- Obsolete websites. A last modification date reading "23 January 1996" would not be acceptable.

- Websites showing linguistic errors. Pay attention to the written quality and avoid spelling errors. And do not submit a website written exclusively in a specific
language to a directory using another language. For instance, do not suggest a website containing pages in English to Yahoo.fr.

- Slow websites. Check the size of your homepage. It should be displayed in 15 seconds maximum. Directories' website reviewers are always
in a hurry.

- Illegal websites. If your website proposes an illegal or improper content, do not cherish any hopes of having it registered in a directory.
