The Main Search Engines

As with directories, there are also major search engines you should give priority to:

• Hotbot : Created by the American Wired website, Hotbot is now the official Lycos search engine. It holds more than 500 million pages in its database and has images, sounds and multimedia searches.
  
  
• Google : This a THE star in the search engine galaxy! Google has more than 800 million pages and a twenty-year long history in newsgroup search. Google also has an image search and presents a simple directory to its users.
  
  
• Wisenut : Wisenut is maybe the next star. It has a more rapid engine than Google for the same number of indexed pages.
  
  
• Altavista : Altavista was the major search engine on the Web at the end of the nineties. Less efficient now, it is still an industry standard.
