What Are Frames?

You have probably already heard of frames but what are they exactly?

Frames are a technique which enable several pages to be displayed in one browser window divided into separate areas. Thanks to this configuration, you can keep content in one part while navigating freely in another. A common use of this mechanism is to place a fixed navigation bar or menu in one frame, generally at the top or lefthand side, and display the site's changing contents in another frame.

If frames are not optional, their usage must be as transparent as possible for visitors. In fact, not all browsers support them, and some users are simply not very fond of them.
