File Transfer

Once your profile has been defined and your site created, you can upload the files for your web pages onto your hosting server without leaving Dreamweaver. The procedure is very simple:

  1. Select Site > Site Files in the Document window.

  2. The site management window is displayed. In the right-hand pane, you can see your site's files stored on your hard disk. The files located with your provider appear in the left-hand pane once the connection has been established.

  3. Select Site > Connect.

  4. After a short while, Dreamweaver is connected to your provider. The files of your remote site appear in the left-hand pane of the window.

  5. Select in the right-hand pane the element (an entire folder, certain files or a specific file) that you want to send to your hosting server.

  6. Select Site > Put.

  7. If the element you wish to send is a web page file, Dreamweaver asks whether you also want to forward any associated files (images, style sheets, multimedia files). Click on Yes to place dependent files.

Security Dreamweaver includes a number of security features used when transferring files. For instance, the program always informs you when you are about to place a file with an older version than the one on the remote server.

After a short while, Dreamweaver updates the list of files stored on your provider's server. The new files are now available on the web.
