Music and sounds : Converting a WAV file for the Internet
Eric Chautrand
Your Mission
Before starting, let's set the décor. The file to be placed online is a drum stereo loop, sampled at 44.1 kHz with a 16-bit
resolution. Its size before conversion is 550 KB, which is too large for the Web and, most of all, for a sequence of about
three seconds!
We will lighten it by converting it into a mono sound, sampling it at a rate of 22050 Hz and choosing a 8-bit resolution.
Each step will divide the file size by 2. So we will obtain a much more reasonable size of 66 KB.
