Flash : Movies should keep to a diet

Vector Graphics
With regard to vector graphics:
- Avoid unnecessary effects.

The simultaneous animation of several objects, zooming, transparency, colour changes, gradients and special line styles are
all effects that help to increase the movie size. So limit yourself to necessary effects!
- If you use a clip art, carefully dissociate all the objects that make it up.

Once all the components have been clearly separated, delete anything that is unnecessary (for instance, invisible lines in
the background) and then re-group everything. Your clipart will then be simpler and much smaller.
- Try to use (and re-use) as many symbols as possible rather than distinct objects.

In a movie, use several instances of the same symbol. You can then modify their individual colours with the Color Effect tab
of the Instance Properties window.

Figure 1: Use several instances of the same symbol to reduce the number of objects
- Select Modify > Curves to simplify the curves and proceed progressively.

A square weighs less than a circle.
- Limit the number of fonts used.

It is maybe not necessary to use half a dozen different styles of 'E'.
While you will not get spectacular results, at least you will prevent your movie adding a few extra kilobytes.
