Photoshop : Give a Pixelation Effect to Your Titles
Daniel Garrance
Positioning the Design
- Create a new document.

Give the document a high resolution (400%, for instance). Make sure that you use a round figure (400%, 700% ... and not 413%.
Nor 412% for that matter!).
- Use the Pencil or the Type tool to create your design.

If you use the Type tool, deselect the Smooth option in the Type dialog box (select Smooth > None in Photoshop 5.5).

Figure 1: Deselect the Smooth option on the tool you are using.
- Create your design as you wish.

The design should be very small. If you decide to use the Type tool, a character size of 12 pixels is usually quite suitable.
Version 5.5. In Photoshop 5.5, deselect the Fractional width option in the Type dialog box to obtain better character kerning.
Once you have created your design you can modify the size using the zoom function. For example, try displaying it at 200%,
300%, 400% etc., to see which size suits you best.
Don't forget, however, that your design is actually very small. Double click on the Zoom tool in the tools palette to display
its "real" size. The next step will show you how to make it bigger.
