Preparing the Layers

Our title needs some solid foundations to rest on. These foundations will be made up of three separate layers. Create a new image with a white background and then proceed as follows:

  1. Create your title with black lettering using the Text Tool.

  2. Select Layer > Merge Down to merge the text with the Background layer, then rename the resulting layer Text.

  3. This layer is going to be duplicated several times to create the different elements of your brick wall.

  4. Create a new layer, call it Background and fill it with white.

  5. This layer is going to be the background of your Web page. Fill this layer with the colour of your choice if you intend to use a colour other than white for the background.

  6. Create a new layer, call it Mortar and fill it with the following RGB values: 50, 0, 0.

  7. Place the Mortar layer above the Background layer.

  8. Figure 1: Your three layers are in position.
