Saving the Outline of the Text

Proceed as follows:

  1. Highlight the text to be selected by holding down the Ctrl (Cmd) key and clicking on the type layer in the Layers palette.

  2. Save the outline of the text by choosing Select > Save selection. Click on OK to accept the default settings in the dialog box that appears.

  3. Select Layer > Flatten image in order to merge the type layer with the background.

We are going to need this text outline later on.
