Getting the Slide Holder Ready

To set up our slide gallery, the first thing we need is ... a slide holder. You can always draw one if you like, but a good scanner makes things easier.

We often forget that a scanner can be used for more than simply scanning photos. And yet any object placed on its glass surface can be turned into an image. If you can't manage to close the scanner lid, cover the object with a sheet of opaque paper or a piece of fabric.

Place a slide holder on your scanner and ... scan it. It is up to you to choose the size. Once you have acquired the image, use Photoshop to crop it and then place it on a separate layer, keeping only the holder in your image. The rest of the layer should be transparent.
