Positioning the Text

The first step involves positioning the text. Start with an empty, white document, making sure that the foreground colour is black, then follow this guide:

  1. Select the Type tool in the tool bar and then click anywhere on the image.

  2. The Type dialog box appears.

  3. Choose a font and a style, then enter your text.

  4. As is often the case with this type of effect, it is better to choose a fairly chunky font, such as Arial Black or Helvetica Black, for example. The font we have used here is called Albertus Extra Bold.

  5. Position the text correctly in the document using the mouse, then validate your text with the OK button.

The text is now in place. Now you have to flatten the image before you can apply the filters. To do this, open the Layers palette menu and select Flatten image.
