Merging Effects

We are now going to use a roundabout method so that the following effects are applied to the text and not to our entire layer.

  1. Select Layer > Effects > Create layers.

  2. Two new layers appear in the Layers palette.

  3. Click on the first column in the Layers palette opposite the Background, so as to hide the background.

  4. Select Merge visible layers in the Layers palette menu.

  5. The two new layers are merged with the layer containing the text.

  6. Make the Background visible again by clicking on the first column of the Layers palette. Then highlight the text layer.
