Selection Tools

Selection is a key element for working with Photoshop. Selection techniques will be dealt with in the next lab book. In the meantime, you should know that when part of an image has been selected, it can be modified or moved without affecting the rest of the image.

Selection tools can be found in the top part of the tools palette. They include the rectangular marquee tool, the lasso tool and the magic wand tool.

Opening buttons! When one of the buttons in the tools palette has a small arrow, this means that it "hides" some additional tools. To access these tools, simply click on the button in question while continuing to click on the mouse button.

Photoshop also has other tools and commands that allow the user to create and modify selections. Most of these can be found in the Select menu.
