Photoshop : Overview

Versions and Availability
The good news: the latest edition of Photoshop - version 6.0 - is now in the shops. What's more, Photoshop now comes with
ImageReady (version 2.0), an image enhancement software for the Web.
The bad news: the price. Nearly £ 500.
There are a number of alternatives, however: one of them is to try the program before you buy it. You can download an English
trial version from
Adobe's site. This version is not time-limited, but it does not allow you to save or to export your work, which is rather frustrating!
If you don't happen to have a broadband Internet connection, you can always find a copy of this try-out version on the CD-ROMs
that come with many computer graphics magazines.
Lastly, there is Photoshop Limited Edition, a "light" version of the full Photoshop package. This version, which is often
bundled with certain scanners, includes most of the features that come with the full package, but at a fraction of the price.
The right choice? There is no doubt that Photoshop is just about the perfect graphics tool. However, before you break into your piggy bank,
it is a good idea to ask yourself whether a simpler and cheaper program would suit your needs better. Have a look at the following
section.
