A Question of Proportions

We now have to resize our car so that it merges into the village, while making sure that we maintain its proportions:

  1. Click on the selection.

  2. The selection outline appears.

  3. Click on the Deformation button

  4. The selection is surrounded by a rectangle with ten control handles that you can move using the mouse. Use the handles that match the desired deformations:

    - An angle handle simultaneously moves the two sides that make up the angle without modifying it. The sides can be moved without maintaining the angle by keeping the Shift key pressed. To move the two opposite sides simultaneously, keep the Ctrl key pressed. Lastly, combine the Shift and Ctrl keys to move only one of the sides.

    - A handle situated in the centre of a side moves the side in question in relation to the centre of the image. Use the Shift key for movements along the extension of the side.

    - The handles situated inside the deformation rectangle are used to move (centre handle) and to incline (right-hand handle) the selection. The handle on the right is used to incline the selection.

    - Lastly, the most interesting montage option: right-click on an angle handle to resize the selection, while maintaining the proportions.

  5. Right-click on an angle handle and reduce the size of the rectangle.

  6. The selection has only been resized when you release the mouse button. Do this by trial and error until the size of the car is in relation to that of its environment.

Trompe-l'oeil The deformation rectangle distorts the perception of proportions. Use bearings that you are acquainted with (doors, windows, people...) to assess them.
