'Buttonizing' an Image

There is nothing easier than "buttonizing" an image. Select Image > Effects > Buttonize.

Figure 2: Paint Shop Pro has a specific function for creating buttons.

The right colours. Like many other functions, Buttonization can only be applied to images displayed in millions of colours. If this is not the case for your image, select Colours > Increase Colour Depth > 16 Million Colours.

Once you have applied the effect to your image, you can then set the image to the number of colours needed for the Web (256 colours at the most for a GIF file) or save it in the format of your choice (GIF or JPG).

The three cursors are used to set the bevel depth on the horizontal and vertical sides, as well as its opacity. With a value of 100, the bevel will be completely black at the image edges. Note that a Transparent Edge option also exists. By default, Paint Shop Pro activates the Solid Edge, which is less aesthetically pleasing because the bevel is linear.

As a general rule, it is better to choose an identical bevel height and width. Similarly, it is preferable that all the buttons on the same page are the same size, with identical "buttonization" values.
