Creating Links

The hotspot is ready, but it doesn't do anything yet. Three information fields are needed to create the link that will accompany it:

  1. Enter the link's destination address in the URL field.

  2. This may be a relative (inside your site) or absolute (towards an external site) address.

  3. Enter the link comments in the Alt_text field.

  4. This text will appear in a tooltip when the mouse pointer passes over the hotspot. The text will also be displayed in place of the image if the browser has been set up not to load graphic images.

  5. Select the link target, that is to say, the window where the destination page will open. You may specify the name of a frame or the different values of the HTML target attribute.

  6. Unless you specify something, the link will automatically open in the browser's default page.

  7. Click on the eye button at the bottom of the dialog box to view the imagemap in your default Web browser.

  8. Figure 4: Hotspots have been defined for each of the two fields on the small island.

Your imagemap is now finished. All you have to do is put it on your site to use it.

An image full of links. An image may contain several hotspots. Once you have double-clicked to close the outline, Paint Shop Pro 7 empties the three URL, Alt_Text and Target fields, thus allowing you to specify a new link.
