Preparing the Images

To follow this workshop through, start by saving the two images that we are going to use on your computer: the photo of the doves and the ray of light:

Figure 2: ... that are going to fly in the light.

First of all, we will have to pick out the birds that we want to superimpose on the ray of light. The freehand tool and a simple "copy" command are all that is needed. Start by opening the two images in Paint Shop Pro, then proceed as follows:

  1. Carefully select the birds using the Freehand tool.

  2. By all means use the zoom function to achieve a more accurate result.

  3. Select Edit > Copy to copy the selections onto Windows' Clipboard.

You can close the photo of the doves. We are now going to work on the ray of light photo.

Save the selection! When you create a very difficult selection using the Freehand tool, save the file straight away in Paint Shop Pro format (with the *.PSP extension). This format memorizes the selection.
