Creating and Positioning the Shadow

In our example, the drop shadow has been created from text (the cat is actually a Holidays MT font character).

Figure 1: Our source image.

Start by launching Paint Shop Pro (well, that would be a good idea ...) and create the source file by proceeding as follows:

  1. Create a new document: File > New.

  2. Select a large size, a white background and a resolution of 16.7 million colours.

  3. Click on the Text icon.

  4. If you are using version 5 of Paint Shop Pro, click on the document to open the create text dialog box.

  5. Enter the text in the window and select the desired Size and Colour. Then check the Floating option and validate.

  6. Click on the empty image and position the text where you want it to go (floating mode).

  7. Click again to leave it there.

  8. Then press the Ctrl+C and Ctrl+E keys consecutively to copy and paste the selection onto the image

  9. Click inside the window, then press Ctrl+I to flip the image vertically.

Figure 2: At this stage, you have created a "flipped" version of the text.

Short cuts. The Ctrl+M keyboard short-cut flips the selection horizontally.
