Designing and Colouring the Button

You are going to start by drawing the button using Paint Shop Pro's geometric shapes. Launch Paint Shop Pro, then proceed as follows:

  1. Create a new document (File > New) in 16.7 million colours.

  2. Select the colour of the future button in Paint Shop Pro's colour picker.

  3. Click on the Geometric Shapes button.

  4. Define the Geometric Shapes options in the Tool Options palette.

  5. - select Circle in the shape type pull-down menu

    - select Filled in the Style pull-down menu - the circle will be a coloured disk.

    - check the Antialias box to smooth the edges.

Toggle the boxes. If the selected tool's options dialog box does not display, click on the Toggle Tool Options Window, or right-click with the mouse on the tool and select the Tool Options palette in the context-sensitive menu.

  6. Draw the circle to the size required (keep the mouse button pressed and only release it when you are happy with the size).

  7. Give or take a pixel. If you want your button to be accurate to within a pixel, then take a look at the status bar: all the information on the size of your button is displayed there. Move the cursor until you reach the size you want and then release the button. Figure 1 shows the outline of a 75 pixel diameter circle.

Figure 1: Paint Shop Pro's status bar gives some numerical indications on the outline in progress.

My selection doesn't fully cover my button. This is the case when the circle is smooth edged. Click on Selections > Modify > Expand and extend it by 2-3 pixels.
